How I Actually Use AI
I found the infestation in my houseplants
I brought home a plant I was excited about because it looked different from the ones I already had. It quickly turned yellow and gross. The soil was wet, I had done the things I knew to do, and it kept looking worse. I took several photos of the plant, leaves, and soil. ChatGPT identified the plant and noticed tiny flies in the dirt that I had not even seen.
It identified the infestation, warned me that nearby plants might have it too, and told me what to inspect. I checked the other pots. They were affected. I bought neem oil, treated the plants, and got rid of the infestation. The badly affected plant is coming back, and the rest are healthy and growing. A search for “yellow plant leaves” would have given me a small universe of generic possibilities. The photographs surfaced the clue I did not know I needed to search for.
