How I Actually Use AI
I made AI check its own AI-sounding prose
I often use AI to organize my thoughts and start a draft. I was also spending a ridiculous amount of time going through those drafts saying, “This is not how I talk. This is not how people talk.” So I built a comprehensive voice document. I collected examples of phrases AI generated, then explained or rewrote how I would say the same thing in real life.
The writing workflow now creates its first draft and performs a second pass against that document before giving it to me. What comes back is not finished, and it is not automatically mine. It is simply much closer. Instead of using my edit to remove generic AI language line by line, I can spend it on editorial decisions, perspective, and what I actually want the piece to say.
